Vermeil is a gold plating technique used on fine-jewelry. This collection includes unique and one-of-a-kind 18k gold vermeil rings, earrings, and necklaces paired with beautiful stones.
18k vermeil is one of our many metal jewelry options. Gold vermeil jewelry combines the quality and durability of fine metals with the character and elegance of solid gold. Our collections include vermeil rings, necklaces, and earrings for those who are mindful of the beauty and quality of their jewelry.
Vermeil is sterling silver plated in a layer of gold, usually 18k. The coated metal must be sterling silver, and the gold plating must be at least 10k to classify as vermeil. The durability of vermeil is determined by the number of gold carats--the higher the carats, the softer the vermeil. Vermeil jewelry is more valuable than sterling silver but less costly than gold.
Vermeil and gold-plated jewelry are difficult to distinguish. Any metal may be gold-plated, so gold-plated jewelry may be cheaper than vermeil if the metal used is less expensive than sterling silver. However, cheaper metals, like brass, plated in gold are prone to scuffing. Vermeil has a much thicker layer of gold than gold-plated jewelry, which makes it more resistant to wear.
18k vermeil pairs best with clear stones like diamonds or white sapphires; dark and deep colored stones like sapphires, emeralds, and royal purple amethysts; and black stones like spinel or onyx.
