Types of Opals
- Harlequin opal is the most desirable. It is translucent with an extremely colorful checkerboard pattern.
- Jelly opal is bluish-grey with bits of rainbow.
- Boulder opal contains pieces of opal lodged throughout a black or brown stone.
- Fire opal is orange with tinges of yellow and red with faint play-of-color.
- Black opal is uncommon and resembles a galaxy within a dark stone.
- White opal is the most common precious opal but beautiful, like rainbow prisms reflecting onto fresh snow.
- Red opal is the rarest of them all, especially when combined with black.
