    PICKING AND PACKING

As you would expect, I always travel with jewelry. And, not just because I design it, but because jewelry is an essential part of fashion. But how do you decide what to take, how much to take and, most importantly how to travel with it? Let's talk about Picking and Packing.

    Picking What To Pack

First, what to take and how much? While jewelry style is personal, when packing for a trip think practical. A few versatile pieces that you can mix and match, dress up or down. Don’t take a family heirloom that you would be heartbroken to lose, or that might make you a target for thieves, but there’s no need to limit yourself to costume jewelry.
If you stick with a few neutral pieces – small stud or hoop earrings, a small pendant, a bracelet – they will work across your wardrobe. Throw in a whimsical or statement piece which can dress up even the most basic outfit. The less jewelry you take, the less you have to keep track of for your return home and you’ll leave room to purchase a piece (or two) on your travels. Depending on where you’ll be traveling, you may want to leave your engagement ring at home and stick with your wedding band, or switch both rings out for something more subdued.

    Packing What You Pick

There are countless travel jewelry cases out there on Amazon or in a good department store, but it’s just as easy to go old school and pack using a few simple things found around the house. Worried about tangling your necklaces? Slip one end through a drinking straw and fasten the clasp. Problem solved. A simple way to keep earrings and rings organized is to put them in the small compartments of a pill case (I found these at the dollar store) or fasten them through the holes of a button and slip the buttons into a Ziploc bag. Small fabric pouches are another simple way to protect and travel with jewelry.
There are plenty of great tips out there on sites like Jewelry Wise or Travel Fashion Girl that will save you money and time. So, remember – keep it simple and save space to bring a few new treasures home!
