People are always asking me what inspires my designs. Recently I
was challenged to put pen to paper (old school, right) and
connect the design dots on my collections. What seemed like a
herculean task turned into a lovely stroll down memory lane. Here
are a few of my collection “backstories.”
Inspired by
Artifacts
I have always loved ancient artifacts and was determined to weave
a little history into the Elements Collection. Inspired by
ancient Byzantine and Etruscan artifacts, the elegant Black & Gold Avalon
Wrap Necklace embodies strength, wisdom, and a little bit of
magic. Among this collection of tiny sculptural treasures you
will find a square charm that represents the balance of the four
winds at sea; a Roman mace head - used for bludgeoning obstacles;
and an eye of protection. Who needs a power suit with this fierce
mix of black and gold?
Inspired by Architecture
The Elements Collection
includes necklaces and earrings inspired by the pattern of
skyscrapers against the skyline. City sidewalks…busy
sidewalks…there’s truly nothing like the energy of a big city.
This sophisticated, urban design captures that metropolitan vibe
as handmade, individually textured elements come together
bringing the city skyline to life. Tab patterns are unique and
may vary – just like every city block has its own vibe, so does
each tab necklace and
earring.
Inspired by
Nature
Living on my glorious 18 acres, I wake to an unparalleled view of
the NC mountains. Add to that my love for the outdoors and
nature, and you get the Edge Color Collection,
with its 5 and 7-stick “flower” petal necklaces and earrings.
Inspired by a hillside in bloom, this design is no shrinking
violet (nor am I, LOL). Feminine with an "edge", these bold
shapes and bright, beautiful colors add a layer of fun and sass
wherever you wear them. The natural AAA faceted gemstones
incorporated into each piece include Blue Topaz, Mandarin Quartz,
Peridot, and Smoky Quartz or Blue Topaz, Peridot, and Amethyst.
It's totally ok to pick these flowers!
The Real Deal
I find that inspiration is all around me, but the trick is to
leave preconceived notions behind and face the world with an open
heart and an inquiring mind. For me, the world inspires jewelry
design. What does our world inspire in you?
